A claimed Millennium solution, and a fight over credit
OpenAI claims its internal model resolved Navier–Stokes with a Lean-certified proof, and a priority dispute erupted within hours — the claim is OpenAI's, the certification is checkable, and who gets credit is now genuinely contested. It landed on a community already uneasy: mathematicians are contesting what AI proof wins mean for the purpose of mathematics. Two smaller results frame the spread: a hobby economics project with Fable 5 became a formal wage model with a Stockholm School of Economics co-author, and DeepMind's AlphaGenome Atlas pre-computed the predicted impact of all nine billion DNA variants — predicted, not measured, and the database is the product.
The rulers keep being rebuilt
Intelligence Index v4.3 arrived three days after v4.2, and Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra now tie at 53 — the third re-ranking in a week, which says as much about the instruments as the models. SemiAnalysis's first third-party Ironwood results put Google's TPUv7 at up to 50% better per dollar than B200/B300 on its InferenceX preview. And Dan Luu asks why the labs haven't built RL environments for testing — his study of how coding agents actually test software, and the sharpest tooling question of the week.
Money finds silicon, again
Mistral raised €3bn at above €21bn in a Samsung-led Series D — by its own description the largest equity round a European AI company has completed. Qualcomm granted Amazon US$4bn in warrants tied to up to US$60bn of chip purchases — the warrant-for-procurement structure again, three weeks after Marvell issued Google's. Wistron priced a US$1.47bn GDR sale to fund raw-material purchases — Wistron itself says only "raw materials"; that this is the memory shortage surfacing in corporate finance is our hypothesis, and the signal keeps the alternative reading. And on the longest horizon in the batch, ASML and TSMC are pushing 12-inch EUV photomasks, pilot line 2031, fabs 2033.
The clock on open weights
A widely shared essay argues the industry has roughly a year to fix its security debt, triggered by GLM 5.3-flash putting near-frontier offensive capability eleven points behind the frontier at open-weights prices — one practitioner's clock, and the argument is the signal. Meta launched its Muse personal agent app at free, US$20 and US$100 tiers, and Thesys shipped OUI-1, a generative-UI model that runs on a consumer GPU, scoring 71.7% on its own benchmark — its own benchmark, which is the qualifier that matters.
